Duett Vascular Graft System

The Duett Vascular Graft System was designed to simplify open surgical thoracic aortic arch reconstruction and repair procedures with the goal of providing cardiothoracic surgeons a means to treat the target vessels effectively and more efficiently.

The aorta is located in the chest at the top of the heart and is the largest artery of the body. An aortic dissection, or tear in the aorta, is caused when a tear between tissue layers in the artery allows blood to leak between the layers causing them to separate or “dissect.” The damage impacts the normal flow of blood and prevents blood from flowing properly through the rest of the body. The patient may feel sudden pain in their chest or back, and there could be major internal bleeding. Time is of the essence to surgically repair the dissection.

One such condition is called Type A Aortic Dissection (TAAD). Its surgical repair is both complex and high pressure for the surgeon. It is a lengthy procedure and often takes 4-6 hours. The surgeon must not only stop the heart to perform the repair, but also the blood circulation. There is a limit on how long the heart can be stopped. Prolonged stoppage, or circulatory arrest, carries a number of risks including high mortality rate1. In this procedure, every minute matters.

Instead of time-consuming sutured anastomosis, we rapidly connect with a novel system

Our goal is simple: eliminate the time associated with reconnecting vessels. Instead of lengthy suturing techniques that take about 15 minutes2 per closure, we at Aquedeon Medical, have developed the Duett™ Vascular Graft System. It quickly connects vascular grafts to the patient’s vessels, without the need of suture. In a survey of US based cardiothoracic surgeons, they estimated at least 30 minutes3 of time would be saved during their TAAD procedures.

The system is comprised of two components:

  • Duett™ Vascular Graft, which is a nitinol reinforced ePFTE vascular prosthesis
  • Duett™ Delivery System, on which the graft comes pre-loaded
